Pay-By-Weight |
Pay-By-WeightHouseholds in Waterford, Laois and Tipperary operate a "Pay by Volume / Pay by Use" system where the customer pays a service charge based on the size of the bin or the frequency of collections.
Households In Limerick, Clare & Kerry Mr. Binman operates a Pay by Weight system where
customers’ bins are weighed each time they are emptied. Each Bin Truck is installed with weighing equipment designed to weigh wheelie bins as they are lifted into the truck. All Mr Binman bin trucks are calibrated by Irish Legal Metrology. Only the weight of the waste in the bin is registered onto customers account as the bin is weighed before and after waste is tipped into truck. Every bin has been fitted with a microchip in the underside of the lip of the wheelie bin. Each chip has the individual customer’s details scanned onto it. So when your bin is emptied a Microchip reader on the back of the truck sends the information to the on board computer. The information gathered is then downloaded to an invoicing system and this is how our customers can then be billed in accordance with the weight of waste they produce for disposal. Minister for the Environment, John Gormley T.D. recently announced he will be increasing the landfill levies (taxes). The purpose of these levies are to encourage all of us to recycle more of our waste so there is less waste going to landfill. The landfill levy/tax generates revenues that can be applied by Government in support of waste minimisation and recycling initiatives. By using your local bottle banks for glass and placing less recyclable waste into your residual waste bin, you will minimize the amount of waste going to landfill. By recycling more, it will cost you and the environment less! Pay by Weight Customers can access their weight details on an automatic phone service:
