This handy list of Skip Hire Dos and Don’ts is all you need before placing your next order.

 

DO: What You Can Do

1. Use our largest skips for general house clearances.

2. Make sure your gateway or entrance is at least 9.5 feet wide for the skip lorry to access safely.

3. Ensure the area is clear of low-hanging wires, archways, or other obstructions.

4. Dispose of everyday household and garden waste, unless listed below.

5. Inform us 48 hours in advance if you need to cancel your skip hire order to avoid a cancellation fee.

6. Contact us if you need to extend your skip hire beyond the maximum 7 nights as extra charges may apply.

DON’T: What You Must Absolutely Avoid

 

1. No full loads of soil, clay, stone, concrete, rubble, or plasterboard in our largest skips. They are designed for mixed waste only.

2. No electrical appliances (TVs, fridges, washing machines, etc.). These need to go to a WEEE drop-off recycling point or Civic Amenity Site.

3. No vehicle tyres or batteries. These need to go to a WEEE drop-off recycling point or Civic Amenity Site.

4. No silage plastics (e.g., bale wrap or pit silage).

5. No gas cylinders or brewery kegs. These items must be returned to the supplier or taken to a licensed facility that can handle them safely.

6. No hazardous waste, including paint, oil, chemicals, or asbestos. These need to go to a Civic Amenity Site.

7. No overfilling the skips! For safety, skips must be filled level with the sides. Overloaded or overflowing skips cannot be collected.

8. No mattresses in mini skips. These are suitable for standard or large skips only, and there is a recycling fee of €20 per mattress.
